what can'T

you hear?

Music can be powerful.  The music we are exposed to over the course of our lives both directly, and indirectly impacts the people that we become.  Many of us will pay almost any amount of money for a concert ticket so that we can sit in the same room with a bunch of other people who are willing to do the same, in order to experience our own version of what a song means.

Happy.  Sad.  Angry.  Mad.  Hopeful.  Hopeless.  Tired.  There isn't an emotion or attitude that hasn't been paralleled in, or expressed through...music.  I would even argue that the most amazing aspect of music is that it connects us spiritually.  Not just to ourselves, but to each other.

But if I were to ask a crowd at an Eagles concert how many of them are thinking about the notes on a page of sheet music while singing along with Take It Easy, I don't think I would welcome a large response.  Staring at a song on paper isn't sexy.  It does nothing without the instruments and vocalists added intentionally to bring that music to life.  The same can be true for us as human beings.  And for our companies, churches, families and friends.

A music staff at its most basic level, is made up of five lines.  Those five lines are the platform upon which a song is built.  Can songs be written without writing the notes down?  Of course.  But that song still has a structure behind the music.  The truest aspect of what notes work and don't work can only be realized through exploring the vision, and intent of the song.  In the same way, organizations and even we as people can struggle if we don't establish a framework for realizing our hopes and dreams.

If people can't see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves; but when they attend to what he reveals, they are most blessed.
